The Subject
A wall crucifix that brings together Bethlehem's two oldest crafts: the olive wood carver's and the shell cutter's. The corpus is set against bands of white pearl and blue-green abalone.
The Making
Strips of shell are cut and laid into channels routed in the olive wood, then polished flush. Gilt-rimmed medallions mark the four ends of the cross.
Chosen by the house from the workshops of the forty Bethlehem families it works with, and sent to you from Old Caritas Street.
