The Subject
After the Cross, Mary receives the body of Christ. The subject has been carved and painted for seven hundred years, and it asks the same thing each time: that we stay a while with grief. Here her head bends low over him and the folds of her robe pool across the base.

The Making
Carvers say olive wood shows itself best in drapery, and this piece shows why. The grain swirls through Mary's mantle in dark, smoke-like bands that no chisel could have planned. The broad base is cut to show the wood's figure, with a plate reading “Pieta”.
Chosen by the house from the workshops of the forty Bethlehem families it works with, and sent to you from Old Caritas Street.
Every order leaves Bethlehem within 48 hours, sent by EMS Express Mail Service. Your tracking number is emailed to you the day the parcel is handed over.
Because each piece is packed and sent by hand from the Holy Land, we do not accept returns or exchanges once an order has shipped. If anything arrives broken, email a photograph to info@saint-michael-store.com and we will send a replacement.
