The Subject
Known in the Eastern Church as the Mystical Supper (Ο ΜΥΣΤΙΚΟΣ ΔΕΙΠΝΟΣ), the scene shows the institution of the Eucharist. The apostles gather around a round table beneath red draperies and city towers, and the youngest, John, leans towards the Master.
The Making
A crowded composition with thirteen faces, each with its own gesture, painted on a large panel with a shaped edge. This is among the most demanding icons a painter can take on, and the largest in the room.
Chosen by the house from the workshops of the forty Bethlehem families it works with, and sent to you from Old Caritas Street.
