The Subject
The icon follows the Byzantine pattern for the Nativity. Mary rests at the mouth of the cave, the swaddled Child lies in the manger watched by the ox and the ass, angels and shepherds receive the news on the hillside, and Joseph sits apart, pondering. A single ray from heaven falls on the Child, and the Greek title above names the feast.

The Making
Painted on a shaped panel whose edges are left irregular and dark, so the scene seems to open out of the wood. Each figure is built up from deep tones to light ones, the traditional way of painting faces in icons.
Chosen by the house from the workshops of the forty Bethlehem families it works with, and sent to you from Old Caritas Street.
Every order leaves Bethlehem within 48 hours, sent by EMS Express Mail Service. Your tracking number is emailed to you the day the parcel is handed over.
